Free Week At Home Finally

This is the first week I will actually be spending entirely in Charlotte without having to work. We had an awesome week traveling to Indiana two weeks ago then I worked three days last week. We went to visit family in Indy and got to partake in the 2025 back to school cycle, but now we can get into our routine. The only change will be how we spend our evenings from 2pm to bedtime.

I am torn on how to feel or what goals/expectations I should have for myself this week. On one hand, I’ve always contended that we are a rare breed that don’t need to be working on something or have some grand purpose for the day. On the other hand, I find myself spinning out trying to figure out which direction I should go with my free time. There are nearly infinite possibilities. You can’t possibly do them all. I have a list of 20 things or so and you can’t even do all of those. A future post will simply be a list of things I want to possibly do.

I will say, working tonight on a Sunday and then having the rest of the week off is amazing. It is one of the best feelings in the world to be at work knowing you don’t have to come back for a while. Unfortunately, that means occasionally you do have to go to work to realize that feeling.

Cleaning Out My Closet

My goal for this week is going to be getting rid of clothes and other junk I don’t need. This is not easy for me so I really should establish rules. I think the best strategy for me is to have three piles. One for donations, one for trash, and another for stuff I never really wear but still think I need to keep. The third pile may sound ridiculous, but it will help me part with stuff if I think it’s still retrievable. Megan will have no issue moving it to the donation pile or trashing it when I’m not looking. Reddit has a pretty good thread with people giving their strategies.

“Am I actually wearing it? Past behavior is the most realistic.”

“If it’s not a strong yes, it goes.”

“Shopping in your clothes is such a great tip!” Goes along with starting by just pulling out the things you love rather than the other way around.

“One tip that I heard and liked was the “No Sevens” rule. Basically, rate each piece of clothing on a 1 to 10 scale but you can’t rate anything a 7 since 7 is sort of an average. Anything 8 or above you can keep, anything 6 or below should go!”

“Life is too short to wear uncomfortable clothes or hold on to clothes because I might fit into them someday.”

I should give myself the whole week to just do all the bedroom drawers and closet, but I would like to clean out the crawlspace and do a full digital declutter. I have more time now, but it feels more finite.
