The picture above is the sweet poster my wife made me on my last day of work.
What I Miss About Going to Work…hmm. If my last job had been working at CVS, the answer would be not a damn thing.
However, my last full-time job and current per diem position actually does provide a few redeeming qualities.
While I could listen to podcasts while working overnights at CVS, the overall downsides about working there overshadowed any positives. Unfortunately, I have yet to find a real good time while not at work to listen to my podcasts, so they pile up during my off days. My per diem position allows just enough opportunity to catch up on the important podcasts. Fortunately, I sort of don’t miss listening to any of them all that much.
Another benefit of work is getting to see coworkers. It’s kind of like getting paid to get in some socialization even if it is just for scattered bits throughout the shift. It’s fun to say hi to everyone.
The built in baseline level of “you’ve had a productive day” working a shift gives you is sometimes welcome. You just show up, get through the shift and it feels like you have been productive. Plus, you get the added benefit of being compensated for being there. Any little bit of money earned is less money that needs to be taken from savings when the cash runs dry.
It continues to provide the bitter to make the days not at week that much sweeter. It was just the other week I was saying I could probably just go back to work full time. Then after working two days in a row and seeing the year end review nonsense full-time employees have to fill out, I am thankful and ecstatic with not working full time.
I guess that’s all I can think of. Guess I’m not missing much after all.
