Did I Retire Last Night?

Depending on your definition and how much work you allow in your definition of retired, I think I may have retired. One downside when going from full time employment to an as needed basis at the same company is it loses some of the spectacle of retiring.

The best way to put it is by saying that I am now retired from full-time employment. I do not have any intention to go back to full-time work, but I would if financially necessary in a few years or if some miraculous new job opportunity opens up that I’m interested in pursuing.

Since I will be picking up shifts doing the same exact job with the same people and actually working 3 days next week, it all felt a bit anti-climactic. No party, no big speech, no celebration. I decided to pick up some of the holes I’m leaving in the schedule over the next few weeks since the next two months I will be short a few shifts from my minimum target.

It doesn’t matter. I’m retired from full-time employment and it feels pretty damn good to me.
